The team initially conducted site surveys to assess the condition of the shop fronts and the overall structure of the building. This involved liaising with architects, engineers and contractors to establish what changes were necessary. Detailed plans were submitted to the local planning authority, to reinstate the original stone bays and request a change of use from commercial use to residential.
Initially, the building was stripped back to the brickwork. This was done to expose any underlying structural defects that might need addressing before the refurbishment began. As part of the refurbishment, insulation was added to improve the building’s energy efficiency and new plumbing, electrical wiring and heating systems were installed throughout the building.
The end product consisted of two 2-bedroom flats and one 1-bedroom flat, all finished to a high standard. The final result was a set of modern, well-designed living spaces that met both the aesthetic and functional requirements set out in the initial plans.
